A STRATEGIC ANALYSIS OF THE CAMPUS CELEBRITY PILOT PROJECT

The Campus Celebrity Pilot Project holistically reflects Mey-low-D Foundation's mission, goals and strategy and creates a mental,
social and operational framework for its social impact to be registered in the lives of youths.

This project seeks to create attention through entertainment and entice the youths to give us their ears for sensitisation through
this entertainment hence edutainment. The project's specific target impact for 2007/2008 is : 8 edutainment concerts, 11 school
outreaches,1 final joint concert(approx 700 spectators), 120 total contestants, Approx 4500 total spectators, 1000 youth
sensitisation brochures, 10 HIV/leadership talks, 16 local TV editions, 20 radio editions, 10 school clubs created by school delegates
with a total of approx 345 Mey-low-d club members.

The rationale of the Campus Celebrity Concept here is that most young people (especially those in need of behaviour change) are
easily bored by advice that is given by older people in a stern or serious atmosphere. Young people like to be animated. As youths we
also prefer interacting with and listening to our peers than older people.

Therefore, peer to peer "edutainment" as we have seen through Campus Celebrity, gives us a very strong social validation, power and
influence over our fellow youths. Through Campus Celebrity:

* we excite and entice with our songs, parades and dance presentations
* We sensitise through our brief concert lectures by young skilled motivational speakers and We  educate through our brochures,
posters, TV adverts, Radio programmes, Campus Celebrity TV talk shows and ACMS aided reglo discussions at the level of the clubs,
summits of social and senior prefects, etc.
* And finally with more technical support from advanced partners and government technical authorities, we shall train trainees and
trainers on leadership, HIV Outreach, Character Development and Career orientation through an elaborate leadership programme
that shall penetrate our networks of schools, school clubs and publicised school celebrities.

We are aware that some risks are involved in the edutainment appraoch such as:

* Getting carried away by the entertainment factor and failing to educate, or
* Educating too much and losing the attention of the audience we have enticed through entertainment.
* Missing out on the non-school youths who also need to be sensitised
* Difficulty in setting benchmarks and monitoring actual behaviour change

Nonetheless, we can't say precisely if entertainment is more essential in the Campus Celebrity Concept than education or the
reverse because both must go hand in hand and be carefully blended for Mey-Low-D to achieve its desired effect the way we plan to
achieve it.

The risk of missing out on non-school youths shall eventaully be balanced up by a the mey-low-d concept that is still being developed
"street wise". However , our current operational potential gives us the poise to run Campus Celeberity and hope that our impact
difuses from campuses to streets as our sensitised students population difuses and interacts with other non-school youths. Also,
our media projects are loved and followed up by both school and non-school youths all over Bamenda.

The risk of dificluty in Behaviour change benchmarking can be easily mitigated by proper training and support from competent
behaviorists and statisticians.

That notwithstanding, a good project has to be tested, with its risks or errors if its advocates hope someday to make a
difference.Campus Celebrity was succesfully tested this year in Bamenda.  With contant assessments and proccess improvements,
Campus Celebrity like a well sown mustard seed can grow to become a serious asset for Cameroon's stakeholders in youth affaires to
make a true heartfelt and lasting impact on the minds, hence the behaviour of young Cameroonians and secure a more responsible
tomorrow.

Part of Campus Celebrity's operational ease comes from the fact that we inflitrate schools which are already existent and
sustaniable networks instead of creating new or more fragile networks that may easily disappear with little hope or revival due to
project constraints.

It is therefore in the best interest of Mey-low-d Foundation to streamline our objectives and strategies to suit its Pilot Project
for the next few years as a channel for organisational growth while hoping to widen its scope with the acquisation or more
resources. Mey-low-d virtually has plans with time and adequate growth in resources and competencies to take this concept
nationawide.
